National English Honor Society
The National English Honors Society (NEHS) seeks to promote and celebrate literacy at Mount Olive High School (MOHS) and throughout the Mount Olive school district. NEHS is part of a national chapter sponsored by Sigma Tau Delta (an international English honors society for college students). Each Spring, Mount Olive students are invited to apply to join the NEHS. Application requirements include attending MOHS for at least one year, completing at least two semesters of English, maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0, and demonstrating clear disciplinary interest in the study of English Language Arts. From these base qualifications, a selective review process ensues in which student applications are assessed for the most exceptional demonstrations of aptitude and appreciation for English Language Arts studies.
Once inducted as a member of the society, students work individually and collaboratively to foster literacy in the MOHS and greater Mount Olive school district communities. Members are expected to maintain good standing in the society through consistent meeting attendance and satisfying yearly goals for participation in activities and service.
