Mission Statement
Mission Statement
Our mission is to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within our school environments for all students and faculty. As our diversity grows, we aim to create a more comfortable and safe space by uplifting students' voices through curriculum, policy, and cultural changes. We aim to unify our varying backgrounds by celebrating our traditions and educating our students through an inclusive worldview.
Curriculum and Instruction
The Curriculum & Instruction Committee is dedicated to making sure the educational content in our school is inclusive, accurate, and reflective of the diverse world we live in. As part of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Student Council, we review and advocate for learning materials, resources, and classroom discussions that represent a wide range of cultures, identities, and perspectives. Our goal is to work alongside teachers and school leaders to promote curriculum that highlights historically underrepresented voices, encourages critical thinking, and prepares students to engage with real-world issues
Policies & Regulations
The Policies & Regulations Committee exists to protect student rights and advocate for fair, equitable, and inclusive policies within our school. As part of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Student Council, we challenge systems, rules, and practices that may harm, exclude, or silence members of our community. Our mission is to review school policies through an equity lens, amplify student concerns, and push for reforms that create lasting, positive change.
- In Progress: Drafting regulations for the 1523 Comprehensive Equity Plan, a policy drafted by our board to ensure an equal environment for every student in the district
- We are in collaboration with Mr. Stansberry to meet with both the BOE’s C&T and Policy Committee to draft regulations for our 1523 Comprehensive Equity Plan.
Activities
The Activities Committee is all about creating opportunities for students to connect, celebrate, and have fun while embracing the diversity within our school community. As part of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Student Council, we plan events and programs that bring people together, highlight different cultures and perspectives, and make sure everyone feels welcome and included. From cultural showcases and themed spirit days to awareness events and student-led initiatives, we aim to build a school environment where every student can see themselves represented and involved
“Storytime Project”- This project connects our high school students with our Mount Olive elementary students to educate them on varying cultures that they may not have been exposed to yet. Kicking this project off in November 2023, D.E.I. members visited Sandshore Elementary, reading the book We Are Water Protectors to teach them about Native American culture in honor of Native American Heritage Month. Following the reading of the book, the students participated in a follow-up activity to truly connect with the material. Proving to be a great success, this project has since been rolled out to all Mount Olive elementary schools and will be a continuous activity throughout the incoming school years.
“Student vs. Faculty Basketball Game”- On February 27th, 2024, the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Student Council hosted Mount Olive High School’s Student vs. Faculty Basketball game in honor of Black History Month. This event brought many people together and provided a new connection between the students and faculty. We brought out Mount Olive’s own elementary recreational basketball team to play a “Knockout” game during halftime. Roughly 500 people attended the game, and the crowd was very entertained and engaged with the game. This event is a great deal of fun for not only students but also teachers and the community in the stands. Proving to be an event of great success and community involvement, this event has become a staple within our yearly agenda, and is a highly anticipated annual event within the student body.
“Student vs. Faculty Soccer Game”- This past October, the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Student Council hosted an unforgettable Student vs. Faculty Soccer Game in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month! Students and faculty came together not just for a friendly match but to celebrate culture, unity, and the powerful impact of Hispanic and Latinx communities. The event was filled with high energy, team spirit, and meaningful connection, bringing our school community closer through the love of the game.
“Spirit Weeks”- Over the course of the year, the D.E.I. Student Council rolls out a variety of spirit weeks to highlight various monthly cultural observances such as Black History Month, Autism Awareness Month, and Hispanic Heritage Month. These weeks allow the entirety of the student body to interact with and educate themselves on various cultural groups and observances in their own ways!
Social Media
The Social Media Committee is the voice and vision behind the D.E.I.’s online presence. This team of creative students manages our digital platforms to inform, inspire, and engage the student body. From promoting events and amplifying important causes, the Social Media Committee ensures that every post reflects our values of diversity, inclusion, leadership, and community. Whether it’s designing graphics, crafting captions, or capturing campus life in real time, this committee helps bring the Student Council’s mission to life—one post at a time. We have connected with students, staff, and parents through our Instagram page and have worked hard to get DEI’s message out to everyone. We are currently working to expand our presence to additional social media platforms, so stay tuned!

Multilingual Students
The Multilingual Students Committee is a branch of the Student Council focused on representing and uplifting students who speak multiple languages or come from diverse linguistic backgrounds.
This committee works to ensure that language is never a barrier to belonging. Members help advocate for language-inclusive practices, collaborate on translating key school information, and support events that highlight global cultures and languages. The committee also helps build bridges between students of different backgrounds through shared experiences, peer support, and cultural exchange. At the heart of our school’s global community, the Multilingual Students Committee celebrates and supports students who speak, learn, and live in multiple languages. As part of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Student Council, we work to amplify the voices of multilingual students, foster a sense of belonging, and create spaces where cultural and linguistic diversity is valued. Through advocacy and community-building initiatives, our committee is dedicated to making sure every student, no matter what language they speak, feels seen, heard, and empowered.
Mental Health/Health
The Mental Health Committee advocates for the well-being, safety, and mental health rights of every student in our school community. As part of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Student Council, we are committed to challenging the stigma around mental health and pushing for meaningful changes that support students' emotional and psychological needs. Our work focuses on raising awareness, increasing access to resources, and holding conversations that promote understanding and empathy. We strive to ensure that mental health is treated as a priority, not a taboo, by creating programs, campaigns, and initiatives that protect and uplift students’ voices. We believe mental health is a right, not a privilege, and we won’t stop advocating until every student feels safe, supported, and seen.
