Jazz Ensemble and Big Band

The MOHS Jazz Ensemble and Big Bandare extra-curricular courses that provide students with basic and advanced instruction in jazz-related rhythms, tone, style, listening skills, and improvisation. The goal of these performing ensembles is to give interested students an opportunity to study and play classic and contemporary literature, while also learning about the history and relevance of the selections, composers, and genre.

The ensembles have performed and competed at jazz festivals both local and national levels and have also been invited to share the stage with college and professional groups, most notably, the Berklee High School Jazz Festival. Jazz Ensemble has had the opportunity to perform for the NJMEA convention as a featured ensemble, consecutively placed in the NJ state finals for NJAJE jazz ensemble competition, and also performed at the world famous Apollo Theater in Harlem, NYC.
