Ten percent of U.S. workers are involved in marketing or marketing-related industries. This foundational course introduces students to the practices that underlie efforts that drive business in our consumer-oriented society. In addition to basic principles, the student is introduced to international marketing, selling, brand management, market research, and price planning. Emphasis will be placed on effectively developing and communicating marketing strategies.

The fashion industry is always at the forefront of the worldwide media and public attention. Whether trendy or timeless, couture or ready to wear, local or international, the runway design and promotional campaigns create a "passion for fashion".
Fashion marketing will provide the student with an understanding of the fashion industry and how basic marketing principles apply to a range of fashion activities. Through the use of hands-on applications and the Internet, the student will become familiar with current trends, pricing, and demographic information, retailing, buying, catalogues and runway shows.

The Marketing II course will help students prepare for a career in marketing. This course will focus on the concepts, tools, and analysis that underlie marketing decisions. We will focus on the "demand side:" the underlying demands of the environment, customer behavior, and competitive behavior that affect marketing decisions. We will also illustrate the tools marketers use to design marketing programs. This course is built around a syllabus, textbook(s), and/or online materials. Topics will include Global Economics, Business, and Social Responsibility, International Trade, Communication Skills, and preparing for, initiating, and closing the sale. Channels of Distribution, Stock Handling and Inventory Control, Risk Management, and Developing a Business and Marketing Plan, in which the students will bridge the gap between education and the world of work, will also be covered.

This course will stress the importance of smart money management. The student will learn the importance of saving, investing, and budgeting; the proper use of credit, and how to avoid fraud and identity theft. The student will learn how to prepare for the future by making the right choices in the present. This course includes simulation exercises designed to provide real-life experiences, such as balancing a checkbook, calculating take-home pay, and tracking investments. Other topics include life, health, auto insurance, and career/retirement planning.

Why learn a business when you can learn the business world? Prepare yourself for one of the top five careers by taking this course. Accounting is the language of business. In this course you will learn how to: set up an accounting system for a sole proprietorship and a corporation; as well as analyze and post financial and operational business transactions, generate financial statements, determine a corporation's profitability and financial strength, and use accounting information to make your own managerial business decisions, balance a checkbook, manage cash, prepare tax returns and much more. Computers will be used extensively to complete business simulations. Students who successfully complete this course with a minimum final average of B+ may be recommended for Accounting II Honors.

This course will help students to understand Accounting as a powerful economic measurement and information system essential to the business decision-making process. Students will be exposed to an in-depth study of detailed accounting systems, controls, and financial reporting. The main focus of this course deals with profit corporate entities; however, partnership Accounting will also be addressed. Financial analysis, budgeting, cash flow analysis, branch accounting, the time value of money, and managerial/cost accounting will also be covered. Students with a "B" average or better are encouraged to take the CLEP exam for college credit.

This course will provide students with a rigorous, up-to-date study of financial management and public finance. It will focus on the theories of financial management as they relate to financial decision-making for individuals and corporations. We will examine in detail the topics of net present value, risk and return, capital structure, capital budgeting, market efficiency, dividend policy, mergers and consolidations, debt management, option valuation, portfolio theory, cash flow management, time value of money, financial analysis performance, and security valuation. In addition, you will be exposed to recent developments in the investment community by means of reflection on pertinent items from The Wall Street Journal.
