Mount Olive High School Senior Tyeler Hagensen Clinches 2024 NJSIAA Wrestling State Championship in Thrilling Victory

MOUNT OLIVE, NJ – In a spectacular display of skill and determination, Mount Olive High School senior Tyeler Hagensen secured victory in the 2024 New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) Wrestling State Championship in the 113 lbs. weight class. Hagensen's triumph adds another layer of glory to his remarkable high school wrestling career.

The NJSIAA State Individual Wrestling Championships, held at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ, from Thursday, February 29 to Saturday, March 2, witnessed Hagensen's exceptional performance as he battled his way to the top. With a season record of 41-4, Hagensen showcased his prowess and resilience on the mat, solidifying his status as a true wrestling prodigy.

Hagensen's journey to the championship was nothing short of extraordinary. Facing formidable opponents throughout the tournament, he demonstrated strategic brilliance and unwavering determination. His remarkable 116-16 career record speaks volumes about his consistency and skill, underscoring his dedication to the sport.  

Hagensen capped off his career in grand fashion on Saturday by defeating Johnathon McGinty of St. Joseph (Montvale), 5-2. He scored a takedown in the second period, then fended off a big a move and scored a second takedown in the third period.

What makes this victory even more special for Mount Olive High School is that Hagensen is now the second State Champion in the school's history. The last time the school celebrated a wrestling state champion was in 1988, a staggering 36 years ago, when Anthony Guidi clinched the title at 152 lbs. Tyeler Hagensen's accomplishment is a testament to the school's wrestling legacy and the dedication of its athletes over the years.

Mount Olive High School's wrestling program has a rich history, and Hagensen has etched his name alongside the legendary Anthony Guidi. The community is buzzing with pride, celebrating the achievement of their young athlete who has brought glory to the school and town.
